The Scarlet Letter

The most famous novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne and his magnum opus. It is a story of forbidden love that reveals the morals and way of life of the Puritan society of New England in the mid-17th century. The plot of "The Scarlet Letter" is rightly considered one of the most dramatic and tense in literature. 

The young Englishwoman Hester married an elderly doctor and moved to Boston with him. Soon her husband went on a journey and did not send news for many years. Left alone, Hester could not resist her feelings for a young clergyman... and gave birth to his child. For her love, she became an outcast, who for the rest of her life would be forced to wear on her dress the scarlet letter "A" — adulteress. A narrative about a weak woman bearing her "shame" with her head held high, about her endless strength of spirit.
