The artist Asle lives in Dyugyu. He mainly communicates only with his neighbor, a bachelor fisherman named Asleik. Occasionally, he has conversations with another artist, struggling with alcoholism, who is also named Asle. Both Asles are friends and, in a sense, represent two versions of the same life.

On Christmas Eve, one of them finds the other in a snowdrift. While saving his comrade from a cold death, the hero recalls the past and begins to look at friendship, faith, and creativity in a new way.
