Mother

Maxim Gorky 1868 - 1936 - a Russian and Soviet writer, poet, prose writer, playwright, journalist, public figure, and publicist. The novel Mother, published in 1906, tells the story of Pelageya Nilovna, the widow of a factory locksmith, whose son tries to break free from a hopelessly harsh environment. Despite her fears and anxieties, she gradually becomes immersed in his revolutionary ideas and joins the struggle for the rights of the working class. The novel is considered a starting point for the genre of social realism.
