Commander

1940. Italy is involved in the war. After being seriously wounded, Salvatore Todaro refuses to leave service and decides to take a submarine with a crew of young submariners from different corners of Italy through Gibraltar.
When the “Cappellini” encounters a Belgian cargo ship, Todaro realizes that he must sink the enemy ship, but naval law is above military orders for the commander. Despite the order to destroy the enemy, Todaro takes onboard 26 surviving sailors to deliver them to shore.
Thus, in a tiny closed space with shared hardships, hopes, and supplies, very different people find themselves locked together, who have long been told that they are enemies.
