A fairy tale world, Div, on the brink of war. There is no longer harmony among the gods – the balance of power is disrupted. The dark gods want to seize power and rule everything, while the light ones try... to stop them.
The end of April, Moscow. Lada lives in an ordinary world and suspects nothing. The only thing she knows is that her parents are from Div. Her mother was the daughter of King Berendey, and her father was a jack-of-all-trades. The king did not grant permission for their marriage, so her parents went to Yav, sacrificing their magical gifts to be together.
On the eve of her 17th birthday, Lada begins to be haunted by nightmares both in her sleep and waking hours. She has no one to share this with – she is afraid she will be thought of as crazy. Soon after her birthday, her parents and younger sister die in an accident.
Lada finds it hard to reconcile with the loss of her loved ones.
After the funeral, two familiar guys from her school burst into her house and demand that she goes with them to Div. But shadows from the underworld, the servants of Koschei, relentlessly pursue them. One of them leaves a mark on Lada. This mark can either kill Lada or turn her to the dark side. Salvation comes from an unexpected source. However, it is only a postponement. To survive, Lada must go to the Copper Kingdom for the dead water.
