Slavs: Myths and Legends

The immense and majestic world of Slavic mythology, which is as beautiful and rich as the myths of ancient Greece and Rome, remains a mystery not only for ordinary readers but also for scholars.

Our book is based on the works of Russian historians, philologists, and researchers of Slavic folklore from the 19th to the early 20th century and includes stories about all Slavic gods, magical and fantastical creatures from legends and traditions - from mermaids and house spirits to the unclean spirits, dream-weavers, and bosorkuns. A separate chapter is dedicated to the heroes-knights, whose stories are recreated from numerous bylinas, fairy tales, and folk songs.

Slavic sagas, myths about the creation of the world, the structure of the universe, information about rituals and ceremonies of Ancient Rus - they are the key not only to the vast treasure of Russian folk traditions but also, to a large extent, to the entire spiritual foundation of the life of the Russian people and Russian culture as a whole.
