Midnight's Children

The novel "Midnight's Children" has won the Booker Prize three times: in 1981 as the best novel, in 1993 and 2008 for the 25th and 40th anniversaries of the prize as the best work among all its recipients. It is an allegorical novel, a story about the independent India and the generation that was born in a free country. It is both a myth and a parable, a phantasmagoria where the tragic and the comic intertwine, satire and pathos, adventure and drama, a multi-faceted narrative that tells the life of the main character, Saleem Sinai, and the history of India and partly Pakistan from 1910 to 1976.
