Chapaev: A Novel

«Chapaev» by Dmitry Furmanov (1891-1926) is one of the most grandiose and important novels of early Soviet literature, reflecting the formation of a great state. The legendary military commander, whose fate was recounted by his comrade-in-arms, became an example for... many generations of Soviet people, and the brilliant film by the Vasiliev brothers immortalized the name of the people's hero.
Furmanov created a work that is not only a chronicle of the great and terrible years of the Civil War, but also reflects the most important cultural shifts of its time: during that period, the poetics of literary text expanded its boundaries, borrowing certain techniques from journalistic reporting and cinematography.
