Bryusov was fascinated by Verhaeren, often translating his works and writing about him, adopting much of the symbolist tradition for Russian literature. Valery Yakovlevich referred to Verhaeren as "the... Dante of modernity," but unfortunately, by the 21st century, his lyrics have largely been forgotten in Russia.
