Emil Verhaeren (1855-1916) was a Belgian Francophone poet and playwright. V.L. Bryusov was fascinated by Verhaeren, often translating his works and writing about him, adopting much of the symbolist tradition for Russian literature. Valery Yakovlevich referred to Verhaeren as "the... Dante of modernity," but unfortunately, by the 21st century, his lyrics have largely been forgotten in Russia. We invite you to remember the great poet of the 19th-20th centuries through this selected and translated poetry by V.Ya. Bryusov.
