This publication presents selected chapters from the well-known work of the outstanding English philosopher and psychologist James Sully (1842–1923). The original title is — «An Essay on Laughter: Its Forms, Its Causes, Its Development and Its Value“ (1897). The book... was translated into Russian by writer, poet, philosopher, journalist, and literary critic Leonid Egorovich Obolensky (1845–1906) and published in 1905.
The book analyzes in detail the psychological and physiological components of laughter. It also touches upon the biological, genetic, and sociological foundations of this process.
