Sergei Yulievich Witte 1849 - 1915 – is a famous reformer, state, and political figure of the Russian Empire. During the Russo-Turkish War, Witte established himself as an efficient and skilled administrator, for which he was awarded the highest gratitude. Later, while already in public service as Minister of Finance, Witte achieved the introduction of the gold standard in the financial system and ensured the inflow of investors, resulting in a sharp acceleration of industrial growth rates in the Russian Empire. This book is about a man and his era. Witte, in his characteristic biting narrative style, tells about the main political events in the Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from the perspective of a direct participant.
