The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling. Volume 1

The epic novel by the outstanding English writer of the 18th century Henry Fielding (1707–1754) is created based on a classic plot for that time, designed to show that noble birth is not a guarantee of moral nobility, and low origin does not mean that a person is only capable of base actions.
«The History of Tom Jones» tells the story of a young orphan who is raised in an aristocratic family and, despite his dubious origins, displays all the qualities of a true gentleman: selflessness, honesty, and sincerity. As is customary in such a story, it is exactly these qualities that will help the main character find happiness, while all those who stood in his way will receive just punishment… But it is not this banal plot that made Fielding's work a classic of English literature. «The History of Tom Jones» is a realistic and at times amusing portrayal of English life and customs of that time.
