The Porcelain Room

The beginning of the 20th century, Punjab. Fifteen-year-old Mehar and her named sisters Gurlin and Harbans are married off in one ceremony. Now they hide from prying eyes in a modest porcelain room located away from the house. Following tradition, wives must remain in the shadows. To forget about personal space, to work without asking unnecessary questions, to honor their authoritative mother-in-law more than their own mother, and to prioritize the whims of the elders over their own desires. The girls don’t even know which of the three brothers has become each of their husbands. Only by giving birth to a son do they hope to one day find their voice.
Many years later, a young man who grew up in a small English town arrives in India. Like a spoiled guest, he cautiously explores the places where his ancestors lived. In the abandoned family estate, everything seems strange and foreign to him… Except for the locked porcelain room. In it, he will uncover a hidden story woven from strict prescriptions and direct prohibitions, bold love, and attempts to change the old world.
