new graphic study, he tells the story of the disaster of the airship "Italia", the main characters of this dramatic thriller, and their rescuers. In 1928, the energetic and ambitious Italian engineer, airship builder Umberto Nobile organized an aerial expedition to the North Pole on the airship "Italia", built under his guidance. The crew reached the pole but crashed on the return journey. Six people died, and nine, including Nobile, were rescued. Fortunately, items fell from the airship onto the ice floe, without which they would not have survived in these conditions for two whole months. These included food, a pistol, a tent, and a radio that miraculously did not break upon hitting the ice. After the crash, the aviators were lucky three times. The first time was when a simple Russian guy, a self-taught radio amateur from the countryside, caught a weak SOS signal and transmitted it to Moscow. The second time was when Soviet pilot Boris Chukhnovsky found two still-living crew members trying to reach the shore on foot. The third time was when the Soviet icebreaker "Krasin" broke through to the inhabitants of the ice floe, who had already lost all strength and hope for rescue. The book accurately and meticulously reproduces all historical realities, as well as the portraits of the heroes of the epic. The introductory and concluding articles "To Be the First" and "The Tragic Hero Nobile" are written by Oleg Bundur and are dedicated to the events preceding the flight of the airship Italia, as well as the further post-flight fate of Umberto Nobile.
