On a cruise ship heading to Shanghai, Tintin meets the eccentric Philémon Siclone — an Egyptologist dreaming of finding the tomb of Pharaoh Khi-Osk. Tintin sees exactly the same sign on a cigar found nearby. How could a cigar come to be in the middle of the desert? This is undoubtedly very strange, but worse is the other discovery: in the tomb, he finds sarcophagi containing the mummies of scholars who tried to uncover the pharaoh's secret. And among them are three empty ones — for Tintin, Milou, and the professor, who seems to have mysteriously gone missing...
