Mirror of Mysteries

Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, largely shaping the face of modern literature. Umberto Eco, in his essay on the influence of Borges, formulates the main principle of the great Argentine's works: “Books speak to each other.” Borges himself wrote: “Someone takes pride in every book they have written; I take pride in every book I have read.” In numerous interviews, Borges referred to himself not so much as a writer, but as an attentive, grateful reader.

This edition includes two well-known collections of Borges' literary reflections: “Discussion” and “New Investigations” in their entirety, including texts that have never been published in Russian. Also for the first time in Russian, four lectures by Borges on tango, delivered in 1965 in Buenos Aires, are published. Literature and dance, poetry and eternity, dreams and magic—these are the themes that Borges returns to again and again, inviting the reader on a journey “through the shifting labyrinths of time.”
