Sixteen-year-old Maeve Chambers knows what it means to be an outcast. The youngest child in a family of geniuses, she attends a school for underachievers. One day, Maeve is punished and sent to clean the storage room. There, she finds a deck of Tarot cards and comes to an unexpected discovery. It turns out she has a hidden talent that allows her to understand the special meaning of each card. Maeve becomes very popular at school: there is no shortage of people wanting answers to their pressing questions. When she reads cards for her former best friend Lily, she draws an unfamiliar card for the first time, and the next day, Lily disappears without a trace. Maeve decides to use the Tarot to find her friend, but she has no idea where the magical cards might lead her.
