The Help

The American South, the 1960s. Skeeter has just graduated from college and returns home to the sleepy town of Jackson, where nothing ever happens. She dreams of becoming a writer, breaking out into the big world. But a proper Southern girl shouldn't indulge in such foolish illusions; a proper girl should get married and take care of the house.
Wise Aibileen, thirty years older than Skeeter, has served in the homes of white people all her life, has raised seventeen children, and has long since expected nothing from life, for her heart is broken after the death of her only son.
Minny is the best cook in all of Jackson, and she is also the sassiest maid in town. And her sharp tongue has already gotten her into trouble more than once. Minny never stays in one place for long. But even the most arrogant white ladies should not mess with Minny.
Two black maids and a white inexperienced girl are united by one thing—a heightened sense of justice and the desire to somehow change the status quo. Will these three be able to stand up to a whole world? Will they survive this struggle?
In 2011, the novel was adapted into a film, and 'The Help' became one of the main events of the 2011–2012 film season, nominated for 4 Academy Awards and warmly received by audiences. The screenplay was written by Kathryn Stockett herself, and the film was directed by Tate Taylor.
