In the board game "Dead Season. Crossroads", players take the lead of small groups of survivors after a zombie apocalypse who now reside in the Colony. All individuals have a common goal, the achievement of which is necessary for victory, but each group also has its personal secret goal which, by the way, may not always align with the common one.
On their turn, players roll their own dice, keeping the rolled value, and take several actions. These can include attacking, building a barricade, and cleaning up debris, as well as moving a survivor, passing an item, and playing a card. Some actions require dice, while others do not. When attacking and killing the undead, players roll a damage die to find out what the outcome of the attack will be for the attacker. They may receive a wound, frostbite, or die from a bite.
One of the important actions is searching for items and things necessary for survival. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to do this silently, and noise tokens are added to the location, subsequently limiting further searches.
A vote can also be announced to expel one group of survivors from the Colony. The "exiled" player in this case receives an extra goal card.
The most interesting aspect is the crossroads cards that can be played after certain actions of the players, which cleverly twist the plot.
Move through locations on foot or by car, attack zombies and survivors, defend yourself and beware of injuries, replenish food supplies and search for useful items, monitor the morale counter and try to avoid crises, beware of traitors - in short, do everything to achieve the common goal. For this is what means you have managed to survive. The game ends here, and after achieving the common goal, players' secret goals are checked, and those who managed to fulfill them are declared winners. The game will also end if the morale or round counters reach zero.
