The poet, children’s writer, and famous Oberiu Alexander Vvedensky wrote a simple and touching story about a cat named Makhnota Nozhka, homeless and without a breed, about her wandering, misfortunes, and finally, the kind boy and girl who decided to...
take the cat home with them. Even toddlers can understand this plot, not to mention older children who are already starting to read independently: for them, the text is printed in a large, clear font.
This thin book has an unusual fate. Its first (1928) and current editions are connected by a chain of famous and talented names, closely linked by creative and family ties. Alexander Vvedensky in his "adult" poetry was influenced by Velimir Khlebnikov, one of the most remarkable Russian poets. Velimir Khlebnikov, in turn, was well acquainted with the artist Pyotr Miturich. Later, after the poet's death, Miturich married his sister, Vera Khlebnikova. It was Pyotr Miturich and Vera Khlebnikova who illustrated the first and only edition of the book "Meow".
The current second edition was illustrated by the younger representative of the Miturich-Khlebnikov dynasty - Vera Khlebnikova, the granddaughter of Pyotr Miturich and Vera Khlebnikova. Her graphic drawings are light and dynamic. The artist undoubtedly has extensive experience observing cats - Makhnota Nozhka in the book is as if alive.
Adults should draw children’s attention to the cover: on the front side, the cat Makhnota Nozhka is sad and homeless, while on the back - groomed, domestic, with a bow.
The book will be equally interesting to young readers and adults - admirers of A. Vvedensky's work. Artist Vera Khlebnikova
