The Passions of Nemukhin

The main character of the novel, musician Matvey Nemukhin, seeks God under the lid of a piano and cannot get rid of the devil in his own soul. He lives between two poles - the silence over which «the breath of the Holy Spirit flies» and our merciless world, where a person inevitably loses loved ones, suffers, gets sick, and dies. His life is a knot where the sweetness of freedom is intertwined with irreparable guilt towards those close to him, and the fidelity of love with betrayal and the bitterness of loss. He is the «bad good person» in whose thoughts and actions anyone can recognize themselves: a husband, a son, a father, and above all a being with a soul and conscience.
