Little Tsorres

Abram Tertz — the literary pseudonym of Andrey Donatovich Sinyavsky (1925–1997), a philologist and prose writer, an employee of the Institute of World Literature in Moscow and a professor at the Sorbonne in Paris, author of the books "Walks with Pushkin", "In the Shadow of Gogol", "A Voice from the Chorus", "Ivan-the-fool", the story "Lyubimov" and the novel "Good Night".
The book includes early stories and novellas written from 1955 to 1963 and published abroad under the pseudonym Abram Tertz, as well as the novel "Little Tsorres" (1979).

"Abram Tertz — is the sly shadow of Sinyavsky, a little demon emerging from behind his shoulder: he is a jester, he is Harlequin, he is simply laughter, he hides himself in the text, juggles it, walks on it as if on a tightrope.
Tertz is a rogue and a scoundrel, a violator of law and order. The texts published under this pseudonym (which were previously secretly transmitted for publication abroad) indeed brought the author to the dock and the prison barracks.
The stories are filled with transformations, metamorphoses, rapid role changes: sometimes it is impossible to guess whether the character is alive or dead, whether he is a human or an unknown creature. Phantasmagoria, grotesque, absurdity — Sinyavsky-Tertz himself places himself in the venerable Gogolian-Hoffman tradition."
