Letters of My Memory

The Minsk ghetto remains an unhealed wound on the body of Europe. During World War II, thousands of Jews from the USSR perished here, as well as Jews brought to Minsk from Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia... Not all the secrets of the ghetto are revealed, and not all stories have been told... For the first time in Russian, the documentary narrative by Minsk resident Anna Krasnopurko, "Letters of My Memory," is presented as a separate book. When the war came to Minsk, Anna was almost 16 years old. She is a witness, having seen everything, remembered everything, and subsequently able to write about it. The narrative "Letters of My Memory" is complemented by the author's partisan stories, also published for the first time in Russian, and her essay about Germany. The edition is concluded with afterwords by Anna Krasnopurko's husband and son about how the family lived and how the book was created. In her prose and journalism, in her public speeches, Anna Krasnopurko spoke about how war reveals both the worst and the best in a person, providing examples of the highest manifestation of spirit among all people, without division into nationalities—Russians, Germans, Jews, Belarusians...
