In half a century of writing, British detective author Rene Brabazon Raymond (1906–1985) published around ninety crime novels and changed several literary pseudonyms. The most famous of them is James Hadley Chase. "I, like a bloodhound, pick up the trail...
and smell what the reader wants. And what he will buy" – this is how the master explained the success of his novels, willingly revealing the golden secret: readers are attracted by "action and rhythm." In the 20th century, there was no place for leisurely old-fashioned stories, in which an eccentric detective investigates the mysterious murder of an aristocrat in the cozy surroundings of a country mansion; according to the laws of the new era, the detective resorts to a revolver almost more often than to deduction. The collection includes the novels "Mallory" (1950) and "Spring in Paris" (1951), whose main character Martin Corridon is a former British secret service agent, a former spy, a former commando, and in the present – a typical "soldier of fortune", working for whoever pays more. The Second World War has just ended. Corridon is not averse to stepping away from the business, but finds himself once again drawn into a whirlwind of events that promise the possibility of a good catch, but also threaten deadly danger.
