Thanks to a new procedure of mnemoscanning, they send their outdated and doomed human shells to a luxurious center on the far side of the Moon, while they remain on Earth in new bodies.
But not everything goes according to plan. Although the new mnemoscan allows Jake to find a love previously unavailable to him, his beloved faces a lawsuit: her son refuses to recognize the mnemoscan as the same person as the prototype and demands inheritance. Meanwhile, on the Moon, biological Jake, thanks to advances in medical nanotechnology, heals from his illness and decides to return.
