Lolita. Script

"Lolita" — the most famous book by Vladimir Nabokov, the script of "Lolita," by the author's own admission, — is his "boldest and riskiest undertaking in the field of dramaturgy." Written in Beverly Hills shortly after the triumphant publication of the novel in the USA, it was called "the best script ever created in Hollywood" and served as the basis for the eponymous film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Unlike the novel, the script offers a different illumination, a different perspective, and roles are distributed differently. Nabokov changed many details, invented new characters, and created episodes that allow for a new look not only at the pattern of the tragic life of Humbert and Lolita but also at the very conception of the novel itself.
In addition to Nabokov's preface, this edition contains archival materials, letters from Vladimir and Vera Nabokov regarding the film adaptation of "Lolita," as well as a detailed essay and comments from the translator.
