three-volume work "History of the Disturbance in Poland", and "Translation of the 'Iliad' in Rhymed Octaves", Casanova gained eternal fame thanks to other accomplishments, known to us from his memoirs, in which he narrated the story of his life.
"Memoirs of Giacomo Casanova, Chevalier de Seingalt, Written by Himself" were published for the first time a quarter of a century after the author's death, between 1822 and 1828, in a German translation. The book was met with a loud success, which contributed to its publication in France and then in other countries. Casanova's adventures, primarily love affairs, gained wide fame, and his name became synonymous.
This book presents to the reader selected fragments of the multi-volume autobiography of the "great seducer", as well as famous illustrations by the French artist Auguste Leroux (1871–1954), created for the complete French edition of 1931–1932 and published for the first time in Russia.
