Expansion Features
A new Ancient One, Hastur, emerges in the game, spreading madness everywhere. To counter him, four new investigators become available: Dexter Drake, Jenny Barnes, Michael McGlen, and Wendy Adams.
Prelude Cards – before preparing for the game, one such card is randomly selected. The card affects the preparation and makes games even more diverse and unique. You can agree to choose a card randomly or consult and choose a preferred one.
New deterioration tokens symbolize long-term skill degradation for investigators. The tokens are double-sided with indicators of "-1" and "-2". You cannot decrease a skill by less than one.
Regarding the deterioration tokens, the wording for improvement tokens has slightly changed. Now no skill can be improved by more than "+2".
Unique assets are double-sided cards considered as investigator property. They possess powerful effects.
How to play?
"Arkham Horror" is a cooperative game for 1-8 players. Each player chooses one of twelve investigators, differing in health, sanity, and five skills: knowledge, communication, attention, strength, and will. Traveling around the world, investigators solve mysteries, fall into traps, and fight monsters. During the game, players will also receive various useful items, find allies, artifacts, and spells.
Each round of the game goes through three phases:
1. Action Phase, where players move across the game board, purchase necessary items, allies, and various services, as well as tickets for ships and trains for faster travel around the world.
2. Contact Phase – in this phase, players enter one of three types of contact: combat, location, or token contact. A card describing events, positive or negative, is usually drawn for a certain type of contact.
3. Myth Phase – in which the leading player draws a Myth card and resolves the effects of that card in the specified order. Each effect influences your game in its own way.
To win, the group of investigators must solve three mysteries unique to each Ancient One. But, if the hopelessness token reaches zero, the Ancient Evil awakens and investigators must confront it in open confrontation. If the players are unable to win, the world falls into darkness, and all humanity loses.
