The lighthouse stands by the sea. You might say it's a common thing. But the lighthouse where the red-haired Edwin and Elsa live is not just by the sea - it's almost at the very edge of the world. And...
when Edwin suddenly sets off on a voyage, Elsa is left all alone on the distant northern shore. Well, not completely alone: she has a wolf named Kulik-Soroka and a certain Kaporyak in a bottle with her. Kaporyak in a bottle is not a toy or a statue, it's just an old acquaintance of Edwin, sending letters by bottle mail.
And red-haired Edwin? He is at sea, the waves are raging overboard. He talks to a ship named "Antony and Sweet N." He even conspired with them. Who is this "them"? Antony and Sweet N., of course: he asks them to help him with one extremely important matter. (Spoiler: they will definitely help, and you will still be surprised.)
In Maria Boteva's new story, everything is astonishing: both the lives of the characters and the narrative style, and the chain of plot twists. The reader is in for an exciting journey across the open sea, complete with the obligatory fog and storm - is there ever a voyage without a storm? But through the mist and spray, a glimmer appears now and then - flickering, weak: it seems that this lighthouse hasn't been closed for repairs for a long time. But it is needed by the heroes of the book - and it simply cannot fall apart into pieces, despite all the storms and bad weather.
Maria Boteva is the author of popular collections of stories "Ice Cream in Waffle Cones" (included by the Munich International Children's Library in the list of outstanding children's books of the world "White Ravens") and "You are Walking on a Carpet" (both books published by "KompasGuide"), laureate of the youth award "Triumph", finalist of the Andrei Bely Prize. Despite the lightness of her prose, Maria Boteva's writing is rich in emotional shades, unpredictability, and depth. The style of the writer is, so to speak, inimitable: it is truly a unique language that every reader, once acquainted with it, will love.
