The lighthouse stands by the sea. You might say it’s a common thing. But the lighthouse where the ginger Edwin and Elsa live is not just by the sea - it’s almost at the very edge of the world. And...
when Edwin suddenly sets sail, Elsa is left all alone on the distant northern shore. Well, not completely alone: she is with a wolf named Kullik-Soroka and some Caporyak in a bottle. The Caporyak in a bottle is not a toy or a statue, it’s simply an old acquaintance of Edwin, sending letters via bottle mail.
And ginger Edwin? He is en route, the waves are raging overboard. He speaks with a ship named "Anthony and Sweet N." He even conspires with them. Who is this "them"? With Anthony and Sweet N., of course: he asks them to help him with one extremely important matter. (Spoiler: they will definitely help, and you will be surprised anyway.)
In Maria Boteva's new story, everything is astonishing: both the life of the characters and the storytelling style, along with a chain of plot twists. The reader is in for an exciting journey across the open sea, complete with fog and a storm - is there ever a voyage without a storm? But through the fog and spray, a flickering light occasionally breaks through - dim and faint: it seems that this lighthouse hasn’t been closed for repairs in a long time. But it is needed by the heroes of the book - and it simply cannot fall apart into pieces, despite all the storms and bad weather.
Maria Boteva is the author of popular collections of stories "Ice Cream in Waffle Cups" (included by the Munich International Children's Library in the list of outstanding children’s books in the world "White Crows") and "You Walk on the Carpet" (both published by "KompasGuid"); she is a laureate of the youth award "Triumph" and a finalist of the Andrei Bely prize. Despite the lightness of her prose, Maria Boteva's writing is rich in emotional colors, unpredictability, and depth. The writer's style is, so to speak, inimitable: it is truly a unique language that every reader, once familiar with it, will love.
