Happiness comes to us when we cool towards it. We are not particularly picky and fair about what does not concern us. Therefore, one cannot be sure that happiness, which arrives too late, when you can no longer enjoy it, when you no longer love, is indeed that very happiness for which you were so unhappy before — unhappy because it was not granted to you.
