Time Regained

The novel "Time Regained" is the concluding book of Marcel Proust's seven-volume series (1871-1922). The author's years of observation of contemporary French society have come to an end, and only now does he, through the voice of his main character,... explain why he meticulously recorded the feelings and experiences of his characters. The author has transferred the sense of the flow of life into the text in order to capture the elusive time. The past is captured in images colored by emotions. Thus, a person, seeing an old porcelain cup from which they once drank milk at breakfast, feels the freshness of a long-ago morning and hope for a good day. The image of a forgotten face can cause pain, resurrecting the feeling of experienced loss and disappointment. And yet, by sifting through these images in memory, colored by light and dark tones, one can regain lost time.
