The end of the 17th century. Open sea. A group of slaves on a Barbary pirate galley is devising a daring escape plan and further searching for a hideout with Spanish gold. The escape is successful, and the race begins, the price of victory being life and treasure. Meanwhile, in France, the beautiful Eliza — the best spy at Versailles — is trying to return to London with her newborn child, whose origin is shrouded in mystery. On her way home, her ship is intercepted by a French corsair, and she is returned to the court of the Sun King. Drawn into a web of international intrigue, Eliza is forced to confront various people, including pirates, assassins, Jesuits, financial manipulators, and even one or two lost cryptologists…
