Brigita Reiman is a German writer from the GDR. On her very first day, she meets Nikolaus and Kurt. One is a shy and kind-hearted giant who dreams of becoming an artist. The other is an arrogant and charismatic son of wealthy parents. The three enter into the everyday life where they face hard work at the combine, tests of strength, and a love triangle. On one side of the scale are dances in a restaurant, beautiful clothes, and car rides. On the other are quiet evenings in the barracks, the smell of paints, the rustling of brushes on canvas, and walks in nature. Reha will have to choose what is closer to her heart… The novella "Sister and Brothers" is an illustration of a national catastrophe. The older brother of the heroine plans to escape to the FRG after another brother. Crossing the border is a one-way path, a severing of ties with family, with a dearly loving sister. The heroine desperately tries to prevent the tragedy by laying bare her soul before her brother. Will this help?..
