The worldwide popularity of the silent film star Felix the Cat peaked in the mid-1920s when cartoons about the extraordinary cat were watched all over the world. Images of Felix, whose name means "luck," were used as a mascot in... sports and aviation. There is even a legend that Charles Lindbergh took a Felix toy aboard his plane during his transatlantic flight. And although the legend has long been debunked, its existence does not cast doubt on the character's popularity. However, for its creator, Pat Sullivan, the black cat of luck did not bring happiness. A rigorous schedule for new episodes and feature films led to alcohol addiction and depression. Moreover, the reluctance to give Felix a voice, followed by Pat’s death in 1933, led his animation studio to collapse. Interest in Felix gradually waned, and new adventures were only published in comics. It wasn't until the late 50s that Joseph Oriolo gave Felix a magic suitcase in a new animated series, which aired in Russia in the 90s. In this anthology, we have collected stories about Felix the Cat by artist Otto Messmer, published by Dell Publishing and Toby Press from 1948 to 1953.
