Frederick William Farrar (1831–1903) was an English writer, teacher, and preacher. "The Life of Jesus Christ" is his most popular work in Russia. The book tells about the earthly life of Jesus. Farrar presents the events of the Scriptures in chronological order and subjects them to historical analysis. The translation of the text into Russian was done by the Russian church writer, translator, and theologian Alexander Pavlovich Lopukhin (1851–1904). The edition is adorned with maps, illustrations, initials, and other decorative elements created by several artists. Frederick William Farrar (1831–1903) was an English writer, teacher, and preacher. Frederick's life was closely intertwined with religion from a very young age: he was born in India, in Bombay, into the family of a missionary. The development of the young man's literary talent was largely influenced by his education: first, he graduated from King William's College on the Isle of Man, then the Royal College in London, and later Trinity College in Cambridge. Frederick showed an interest in linguistics, pedagogy, history, politics, and art. At Cambridge, Farrar received a gold medal for his achievements in poetry. His passion for literary activity combined with exceptional piety. The professional side of Farrar's life was inextricably linked with Westminster Abbey, where he served as a clergyman for a long time. His sermons were characterized by originality and eloquence, and many parishioners came to listen to them. In 1869, Farrar was appointed honorary chaplain to Queen Victoria, and from that time on, his fame in theological circles began to grow. His literary works and oratorical skills brought him wide recognition in society. In 1876, Farrar returned to Westminster Abbey as a canon and rector of St. Margaret's Church, and in 1883 he became the archdeacon of Westminster. However, being an energetic person, Frederick did not stop there and in 1890 entered the House of Commons as a speaker, and five years later became the Dean of Canterbury. Farrar left behind not only numerous literary works but also a large family: at around thirty years old, he married, and ten children were born from this marriage. The preacher's eldest son published a biography of his father in 1902. Remembering Farrar's outstanding intellect and his active community engagement, his compatriots named a street in London after him. "The Life of Jesus Christ" is Farrar's most popular work in Russia. During the pre-revolutionary period, it underwent numerous reprints; this book continues to be published today. Its text was first published in 1874. The plot narrates the earthly life of Jesus.
