Clifford D. Simak is one of the founding fathers of modern science fiction, a giant among writers who made the concept of the "golden age of sci-fi" possible in American literature. At the beginning of his literary career, Simak wrote... "hard" science fiction and adventure works, as well as westerns, but later he expanded the boundaries of the sci-fi genre and created his own style, which critics called soft, humanistic, and even pastoral, comparing Simak's prose to that of Bradbury. His worldwide fame came from the novel-in-stories "City" (the titular story is included in this collection). In fifty-five years, Simak wrote about thirty novels and over one hundred twenty novellas and short stories. He was awarded the "Hugo", "Nebula", "Locus" and other prizes. He was honored with the title of "Grand Master of the Nebula Award".
