In medieval Korea during the Joseon era, there was a belief: on the eve of the New Year according to the lunar calendar, one should remove their shoes from the threshold to prevent evil spirits from stealing them. Otherwise, misfortunes would befall the family. The daughter of royal advisor Kim Yeon-in, engrossed in a romantic novel until night, forgot about this tradition and in the morning discovered a sarcastic spirit in her room who wanted to take her life and become a human.
