The last novel by Dostoevsky, summarizing his work and serving as the writer's spiritual testament, which became an important milestone in world literature. Accused of a crime he did not commit, Mitya awaits trial, while Ivan visits his former servant Smerdyakov and tries to ascertain his involvement in the murder, and the monk Alyosha, having left the monastery, hopes to alleviate the fate of a small boy whose father Mitya once publicly humiliated. And, as always in Dostoevsky, amid the series of events, the characters continue to ponder questions — about moral choice, faith and disbelief, about the fall and resurrection of the soul. The second volume includes books seven through twelve.
