The Great Composer (+DVD)

«The Great Composer» — a comprehensive educational manual, which is part of the series «Golden Names of Russia» and is dedicated to the life and work of the great Russian composer P. I. Tchaikovsky. The manual allows students studying Russian as a foreign language to read the biography of P. I. Tchaikovsky and watch a film about his life. The texts of the brochure are based on the memories of people who personally knew Pyotr Ilyich. It also includes the libretto of the ballet «Swan Lake» and an adapted text of A. S. Pushkin's tale «The Queen of Spades».
All texts are designed, firstly, for a deeper study of P.I. Tchaikovsky's biography, and secondly, for the development of reading and comprehension skills of Russian texts among foreign students at the stage of general proficiency in Russian as a foreign language. After reading the text or its part, students are offered to complete various assignments. Special attention is given to tasks for speech development. All texts are compiled based on everyday social, socio-cultural, and educational vocabulary. The texts correspond to the basic level (A2) and the I certification level (B1).
The film is recorded on DVD and intended for viewing on a computer or through a DVD player. The duration of the film is 14 minutes. The assignments include questions directly related to the content of the film.
