The Writer's Diary (1880-1881)

"The Writer's Diaries" by Dostoevsky is not just another work by the author, but a concentration of thoughts and ideas that helped Russian society better understand and assess what was happening in the country and the world, form its views, and observe life itself, events, and the fates of people. The only August issue of the "Diary" for 1880 included Dostoevsky's speech about Pushkin. A monumental event for the cultural life of Russia — in it, the author not only shared his innermost thoughts about Pushkin's creativity, about the "universality and humanity of his genius", but also summarized all the work he had done in his "Diaries". "I hope to resume the publication of the 'Writer's Diary' in the upcoming year 1881, if my health permits," the author noted in the remarks to the 1880 issue of the "Diary". But this was not meant to happen — the resumed (after the completion of the novel "The Brothers Karamazov") issue was published only after the writer's death. The edition is supplemented with notebooks as well as materials of diary and autobiographical content.
