However, the young people are unaware that their happiness and lives are threatened by a danger far more terrifying than the treacherous Egyptian... Inspired by the famous painting by Karl Bryullov, the novel itself gained considerable popularity. The book has been reissued multiple times, adapted for stage and screen, and today rightly occupies a place among the most outstanding monuments of Victorian literature.
