«Inspection» and «The Number of Rebekah» — the continuation of the tetralogy «Shadows of the Past». The first part of the book continues the story of young von Tille, a guard in Dachau, which began in the novel «Wiland». He has climbed the career ladder, arrived for an inspection in Auschwitz, and interacts with his colleagues, trying to understand at what point the beautiful dreams of revenge of the great nation turned into a cult of Moloch. «The Number of Rebekah» presents the events from the perspective of Wiland's beloved — a German Jewish woman, a prisoner of the concentration camp.
Oksana Kirillova spent several years working with archives: the characters she created interact with real historical figures. The books in the series cover the period from the 1930s to the 1990s, with major events occurring in Germany and Russia. At the same time, it is not a narrative burdened with dry historical facts, but an exciting story of tragic love, disillusioned ideals, and unexpected turns.
