The Joy of Our Home. A Long, Long Childhood

Muktar Karim (1919–2005) was a remarkable Bashkir writer, poet, and playwright, whose works are well known not only in his homeland: they have been translated into dozens of languages. Karim's creative legacy is extensive and diverse, and he gained wide fame for his novellas "The Joy of Our Home," "Taganok," and the autobiographical novella "A Long, Long Childhood." In these works, the writer addresses the theme of childhood. Filled with national color, these works resonate truly internationally; they are close and understandable to everyone. Their heroes, sometimes naive, sometimes funny, despite their young age and heavy trials, retain spiritual purity, dignity, faith in goodness and mercy.
