The tragedy unfolded in the final days of the Vietnam War. Donnie Fenn, a U.S. Marine, dies from a sniper's bullet, while his partner, Bob Swagger, is severely wounded. Years pass, Bob marries Julia, the widow of his fallen friend, and they raise a daughter, Nikki, living on a ranch in the Idaho mountains, in a remote province.
