Sympathy

The action of the novel takes place during the crisis in Venezuela and the collapse of Chavism, against the backdrop of a mass exodus of representatives of the intellectual class. The main character, Ulysses Kan, receives news from his wife... Paulina: she is leaving him and leaving the country. Two subsequent events further change Kan's life: the return of Nadine, his once unfulfilled love, and the death of his father-in-law, General Martin Ayala. From Ayala's will, Ulysses learns that he has been tasked with the mission of turning the large family mansion into a shelter for abandoned dogs. If he manages to do this on time, he will inherit a luxurious apartment that he once shared with his wife.

The book is about family and orphanhood, about love and betrayal, about the fight against the abuse of power and political processes in Venezuela.
