East, West

The book "East, West" is a collection of short stories that narrate the eastern and western civilizations, their aspirations and complexities, the failures of globalization, and the people facing difficult choices. The stories reflect to varying degrees the experience of Rushdie himself, his life in India, and the immigrant's daily life in the United Kingdom. All three sections of the book — "East", "West", and "East, West" — are imbued with common themes: forced relocation, poverty, intolerance, the clash of cultures and traditions, differences in the moral systems and values of various countries and religions.
