The mid-19th century. Captain Lieutenant Nevelskoy embarks on an expedition to the Far East with a single goal: to determine whether the mouth of the Amur River is navigable. The transport "Baikal," under the command of Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy, sails under a neutral flag; the real purpose of its mission is unknown even to those closest to him. The crew of the "Baikal" faces a challenging journey through seas, oceans, and land. Full of dangers, but leading to a feat.
