Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

For a true gentleman, a meeting with a blonde is never in vain — in both the literal and figurative senses of the word! This is something the famous screenwriter and author Anita Loos (1891–1981) experienced more than once: she... confessed that she associated herself with the brunette Dorothy — the worldly-wise friend of the charming blonde Lorelei Lee. A wonderful storyteller, Loos began publishing short stories about Lorelei's life in "Harper’s Bazaar" in 1925, and due to their popularity, the magazine's circulation quadrupled. The book "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and its sequel "But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes" (1927) were a resounding success, evidenced by the appearance of a musical Broadway version of the work. And in 1953, a film was released featuring the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe in the lead role.
