On the other, it is a rethinking of a well-known biblical plot and resembles an apocryphal work in genre. At the heart of the plot is the question: why did the Biblical God allow the fall of Adam and Eve? The novel models the reverse situation — eating not from the Tree of Knowledge, but from the Tree of Life, and not by Eve, but by Adam. A monstrous mistake arises, capable of destroying the new human species at the dawn of Creation. But will the Creator Himself allow this?
